THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED AS AN INTRODUCTION TO THE SOLIDWORKS COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN SOFTWARE. TOPICS WILL INCLUDE PART CREATION, USE OF FEATURES, ASSEMBLY MODELING, DRAWING CREATION, SURFACE FEATURES AND BASIC SURFACING TECHNIQUES.
COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURING (CAM)

MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY

THIS COURSE INCLUDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE LATEST CAD/CAM SOFTWARE MASTERCAM X6. STUDENTS WILL DRAW, CHOOSE TOOL PATHS, CREATE MACHINE CODE, AND RUN PROGRAMS ON CNC MILLS USING CAD/CAM.

THIS COURSE INTRODUCES THE CONCEPTS AND CAPABILITIES OF COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL MACHINING OPERATIONS. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON WORKING TO SPECIFIED TOLERANCES WITH SPECIAL AND ADVANCED SETUPS. UPON COMPLETION, STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO PRODUCE A PART TO SPECIFICATIONS.

NIMS I—MEASUREMENTS, MATERIALS, AND JOB SAFETY
NIMS II– JOB PLANNING, BENCHWORK AND LAYOUT
THIS COURSE COVERS SKILLS FOR BASIC MEASURING AND HAND TOOLS, BASIC INSPECTION, WORKPLACE SAFETY, SHOP MATERIALS, MACHINE PROCESS ADJUSTMENTS, AND MACHINE AND TOOLING MAINTENANCE. IN THIS COURSE THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP THE APTITUDE TO READ AND UNDERSTAND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF DRAWINGS, LEARNING THE COMPONENTS, SYMBOLS, NOTATIONS AND THE ASPECT OF GEOMETRIC DIMENSIONING AND TOLERANCE. THE STUDENT WILL DISCOVER HOW THESE INTERWOVEN WORKING GUIDE THEM/THE MACHINIST TO A FINISHED PRODUCT BY USING LAYOUT METHODS, HAND TOOLS, SAWS, OFFHAND GRINDING AND BASIC HOLE MAKING OPERATIONS.
NIMS III—DRILL PRESS
NIMS IV– MILLING
IN THIS COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL LEARN DRILL PRESS SAFETY AND OPERATION. STUDENT WILL LEARN TO CALCULATE SPEED AND FEEDS; PERFORM DRILLING, REAMING, TAPPING AND OTHER OPERATIONS TO PRINT SPECIFICATIONS. STUDENTS WILL EXAMINE THE MILL’S FUNCTION AND FUNDAMENTAL OPERATION WITH REGARD TO ACHIEVING THE HIGH LEVEL OF PRECISION THAT CAN BE EXPECTED OF SUCH A MACHINE. STUDENTS WILL GAIN THE INSIGHT INTO BASIC MANUAL MILL OPERATIONS, SET-UPS, TERMINOLOGY, SAFETY AND USE AND CARE OF MILLS; DEVELOP A STRONG FOUNDATION IN TRAMMING THE HEAD OF THE MILL, TRAMMING THE VISE, AND SQUARING OF A WORK PIECEL AND COMPLETE AN ASSORTMENT OF PROJECTS UTILIZING A VARIETY OF CUTTERS, ACCESSORIES, AND CLAMPING METHODS. UPON THE COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE, THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE BASIC CONTROL SYSTEMS AND MACHINING METHODS USED ON A VERTICAL MILLING MACHINE AND EXPLAIN THE BASIC OPERATIONS NECESSARY TO MANUFACTURE VARIOUS TYPES OF PRODUCTS.
WELDING
BEGINNER: SAFETY/OXY/FUEL & SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW formally STICK)

ADVANCED: SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW formally STICK)

TUESDAY, THURSDAY: 1700-2000 HRS
FRIDAY: 1300-1700 HRS
SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW) THIS COURSE INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO THE SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING PROCESS INCLUDING EQUIPMENT, TERMS, AND SAFETY PROCEDURES. STUDENTS WILL LEARN HOW TO STRIKE AND CONTROL ARC TO PRODUCE QUALITY WELDS. STUDENTS WILL LEARN HOW TO DEPOSIT A PAD OF BEADS IN THE FLAT POSITION. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO PRODUCE LAP JOINT FILLET WELDS IN THE HORIZONTAL POSITION AND E6011 PAD OF BEADS IN THE FLAT POSITION AND THEN E7018. TO SATISFACTORY COMPLETE THE COURSE; EACH STUDENT MUST WELD A FILLET TEE JOINT IN THE VERTICAL AND OVERHEAD POSITIONS TO MEET VISUAL AND DESTRUCTIVE TESTING REQUIREMENTS OF THE AMERICAN WELDING SOCIETY (AWS).
